APPLICATION

The Profibus PA Long Distance construction provides a stranded-conductor option for process-automation fieldbus wiring. It combines bare copper AWG 16/7 conductors, PE insulation, foil and braid screens, and a PVC sheath. The product data specify attenuation of no more than 2.7 dB/km at 39 kHz for use in segment design.

KEY FEATURES

  • AWG 16/7 stranded copper conductor construction.

  • Aluminium-lined foil and tinned copper braid screening.

  • 100 ± 20 ohms impedance at 31.25 kHz and 300V working voltage.

SELECTION NOTES

Calculate the PA segment using its cable length, attenuation, device loading and power-supply arrangement. Specify the required route and terminations with the order. For hazardous-area use, the cable selection forms part of the complete system protection concept and equipment installation requirements.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What distinguishes the Long Distance construction?

It has stranded AWG 16/7 copper conductors, a 9.5 ± 0.5 mm outer diameter and a listed attenuation limit of 2.7 dB/km at 39 kHz.

What insulation and sheath materials are used?

The cable uses PE conductor insulation and a PVC outer sheath.

How is the pair screened?

Aluminium-lined polyester foil and an overall tinned copper braid surround the signal pair.

What operating temperatures are listed?

The operating temperature range is −40°C to +70°C.

What laying bend radius applies?

The minimum listed radius for laying is 7.5 times the overall cable diameter.
